Lucky

It was a very snowy day out at the cabin that Peter and Marcy shared in the woods. And Marcy was stuck inside with nothing to do.

Looking out at the snow, she felt somewhat sad. She missed being able to go out and explore the forest, running naked through the trees.

"What's up, Marcy?" Peter asked, seeing how down his girl was.

"Oh, nothing, Sir. Just a little bored and sad. It's snowing so much this year!"

Peter chuckled and then said, "Well, you do know what day it is, right?"

Marcy frowned. "Umm, it's not your birthday."

Peter chuckled again. "Nope, it's something even better. Two years ago, I found Lucky, remember?"

Marcy did.

Two years ago, in weather just like this, Peter had to go to town to get supplies.

Marcy worried about him the whole time, the roads would be horrible, even for his old truck. She was so glad when she saw it slowly make its way down the driveway.

She watched as Peter climbed out, huddling something to his chest. And when he came inside, in his hand was a ginger kitten.

Marcy reached out for the tiny thing, shivering and half frostbit.

"Oh wow, where did you find him?" She asked, cuddling the soft little kitten to her bare skin.

"Out in the parking lot in front of the store," Peter replied, shaking snow off his coat. "Just meowing its little head off. I looked for its mother, but didn't see one. And just couldn't leave it there. It was cold enough to kill him!"

"Oh Peter, I'm so glad you did. Can we keep him?"

Seeing the joy in Marcy's eyes, Peter of course said yes, and he chuckled as she squealed and hugged the little kitten to her bare chest.

It immediately started purring like a little jet engine, and Marcy held him close to warm him up.

"We're gonna call him, Lucky," she announced. "Cos that is what he is. So lucky we found him!

"Sounds like a good name," Peter replied, as he went back outside for the supplies he bought, which included cat supplies since he knew Lucky would be joining the family.

And Join he did.

Two years later he was a fat, funny, playful friend to both of them. And even offered wise council at times, if only they could understand what he said.

And for Marcy especially, he was a warm, cuddly companion.

Peter, Marcy and Lucky, a family.
